About

My name isn’t actually Jack, but I’ve used the handle PoisonJack on other blogs and boards for some time, originally because I like to write with a poison pen.

I’m keeping the handle so I have some anonymity and plausible deniability when someone in the processed foods and oils industry reads all this stuff and sends someone over to break my legs.

I got interested in nutrition, exercise, and weight loss when I had a heart attack in 2007.  I don’t think anything short of nearly dying would have convinced me to change what I ate and how much I exercised.  So I’m actually pretty lucky that it happened to me.

I don’t have any formal training in nutrition or weight loss.  I am just a conscientious fan and recovering heart patient, and I’ve found that I really enjoy reading medical studies and books on nutrition.

So I will put links to the actual studies I’ve read that gave me all these weird opinions, and if you’re some sort of expert, feel free to call me out on any misstatements I make, so I can correct them.  But I don’t think you’re going to get me to change my mind about my particular nutritional stance.
